Head of the Department

Overview

The Department of E&CE has well qualified, passionate and research oriented faculty.The areas of research includes Nanotechnology, Image Processing, Communication, control & optimization using soft computing.The Department attracts the best of students from all part of India.. The Department has more than 30staff members who encourage the students to take up mini projects and participate in various seminars/ paper presentation contests.The Department works with the objective of addressing critical challenges faced by the Industry, Society and the Academia. The Department Faculty work with excellent team spirit in different technical fields like RF Electronics, Communication, Signal processing, VLSI, Embedded System, Wireless Sensor Network which leads to key research publications in these areas.
The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering(ECE) has excellent faculty and has state of art labs. The students are exposed to industry as we have experts from different industries addressing our students. The industrial visits make it is easy for the students to understand and adapt for their future endeavors. The ECE students have secured VTU ranks. The students of VIII Sem recently won second place at state level VTU project exhibition. Some projects were also sponsored by KSCST.

There is a departmental library which has approximately 900 books used by the faculty and students for reference. Currently the intake of department is 180 students.

Program Specific Outcomes(PSO's)

    Professional Skills: An ability to understand the basic concepts in Electronics & Communication Engineering and to apply them to various areas, like Electronics, Communications, Signal processing, VLSI, Embedded systems etc., in the design and implementation of complex systems.
    Problem-Solving Skills: An ability to solve complex Electronics and communication Engineering problems, using latest hardware and software tools, along with analytical skills to arrive cost effective and appropriate solutions.
    An ability to become an entrepreneur or to contribute to industrial services and / or Govt. organizations in the field of Electronics and Communication Engg.
    An ability to work on multidisciplinary teams with efficiency in different Programming techniques.
Engineering Knowledge Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
Problem Analysis Identify, formulate, research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.
Design/ Development of Solutions Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental considerations.
Investigations of complex problems Using research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions.
Modern Tool Usage Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an under- standing of the limitations.

Faculty Development Programmes(FDP) Conducted:

    2018-19

    A 3- day FDP on “Industrial IoT using LabVIEW” was conducted on 15-16th, Feb 2019. Mr. Manimaran Asaithambi Asst. Manager, VI Solutions, Bengaluru was the resource person. The event was coordinated by Prof. Nikhath Tabassum, Prof. Rashmi Rani S. Prof. Remya Ramesan, Prof. Abdul Azeez

    2. A 3- day FDP on Wireless Communication on NS2 Tool was conducted on 29th-31st Jan 2018. Mr. Nitin, Design Engineer from Impulse system was the resource person. Prof. Sumaiya Fathima, Prof. Nazneen MG, Prof. Subiya Yaseen, Coordinated the event

    An FDP on “Ethical Hacking” was organized 0n 19th-20th Jan 2018. All teaching /Non-Teaching staff members attended FDP. Prof. Zahira Tabassum, Prof. Sufia Banu were the resource persons.

    The Department of Electronics and Communication organized an FDP entitled “IoT, Wireless Sensor Networks & Cadence OrCAD” on 12th and 13th January 2018. Prof. Khamer Fathima and Prof. Nida Maheen were the resource persons. The Staff members of ECE, EEE, CSE and ISE attended this FDP.

    A student development Program (SDP) on “Project Report Documentation using LATEX” was organized on 2ndand 3rd of February 2018 for 7th sem students. Dr. Suraiya Tarannum, Prof. Nikhath Tabassum , Prof. Roshani Supriya B N were the resource persons.

    A SDP was organized for the 6th semester students entitled “Learn Python – A practical Way” on 17th and 18th Feb 2018. The SDP aimed at teaching students about Python programming with hands on sessions. Prof. Shaik Imam & Prof. Mohammed Jebran P were the resource persons for the event.

    Two Day Workshop on Arduino Architecture and Programming & Interfacing was conducted on 8th and 9thFeb 2018.. The SDP aimed at teaching students about Arduino Microcontroller along with lab exposure. Around 50 students a participated in the workshop. Prof. Shaik Imam, Prof. Kehkeshan Jalall, Prof. Harsha K . Co- ordinated the event. Mr. Abhay Swamy CEO of Swamy technologies Pvt. Ltd. and the Alumnus was the resource person for the event.

    The Dept of E&CE organized a Workshop on “Model Making using Advanced Robotics” in association with Nano Embed Technologies on 6-7th April 2018. This workshop was organized for 6th semester students. The resource person was Ms. Kareemunnisa, Technical Head NANO Embedded. Prof Zahira Tabassum, Prof. Naazneen M G, Prof. Sufia Banu, Prof. Shireen Fathima, Prof. Khamer Fathima were the coordinators for the event.

    A Guest lecture on “Network Security in Real Time Application” by Prof. Nisha Choudhry from M.S. Engineering College Bangalore was organized on 26th April 2018. The students of VIII semester ECE attended the session. Prof. Imtiyaz Ahmed BK, Prof. Saiqa Khan were the coordinator.

    10. A SDP on “Difference Equation &Filter Design using MATLAB”, was conducted on 11th November 2017. Prof. Hussain Ahmed, Mr. Surendra K V, Mrs. Nikhath Tabassum, Ms. Shireen Fathima & Mrs. Nida Maheen were the resource persons.

    A Guest lecture on “ADVANCED TELECOM TECHNOLOGIES and INTERNSHIP” by Mr. C. S Hanchinal, Sub Divisional Engineer, from Regional Telecom Training Centre – BSNL, Mysore was organized on 2nd May 2018 .The students of VIII SEM attended the session . Prof. Surendra K V was the organizer .

    A Guest lecture on “CONTROL SYSTEMS” by Prof. Prashanth Gowda from Sai Vidya Institute of Technology was organized on 12th April 2018 .The students of IV sem ECE and VI sem EEE are to attended the session. Prof. Abdul Saleem, Prof. Sufia Banu, Prof. Roshani Supriya B. N were the coordinators for the event.

    The Department of Electronics and Communication in association with EDU – TECH solutions organized FDP on “ LabVIEW” on 10th - 13th October 2017, Dr. Prasanna M K, BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore was the resource person.

    A Technical seminar titled “Introduction & Insight on Python Programming” by Mr. Syed Moin ul Hassan, R&D Engineer, Nokia Networks was organized by Department of Electronics and Communication on16/09/2017. The students of VII semester attended the seminar. Prof. Shaik Imam was the coordinator.

    The Department of Electronics and Communication organized a hands-on session on “Object Oriented Programming using C++” on 6/10/2017 for V semester students. Prof. Shaik Imam & Prof. Naazneen M G were the resource persons.

    Reinforcement session was organized on Management and Entrepreneurship entitled “How to Think As an Entrepreneur” by Mr. Syed Hidayath-ulla Hussaini, founder & CEO, CAB-TO, Bangalore, on 07/11/2017. The students of V semester attended the session.

    A session entitled “Creative Thinking Customer Experience Management & Facing An Interview” by Mr. Syed Saifuddin, Associate General Manager Concentrix Limited, Bangalore was conducted 11/11/2017. The students of VII semester attended the session.

    The Department of Electronics and Communication organized a Industry-Institute interaction event entitled “Development of IOT using Raspberry Pi & Python” on 14/11/2017. The resource person was y Mohammed Atha, CEO & Founder, Inventeron Technologies & Business Solutions LLP, Bangalore. The students of VII semester attended the seminar.

    The Department of Electronics and Communication organized an extended lecture on “Laplace Transforms” by Prof. Hussain Ahmed, HOD EC on 13/11/17

    First Year Orientation Program
    An Orientation Program was conducted on 7th August 2017, for the 1st semester students. The HOD and the faculty addressed the students and congratulated them for Joining Engineering course and motivated them to perform better.

    Fresher’s Day and Ethnic day
    Fresher’s Day and Ethnic day was organized for the students. The students participated in the different events with a lot of enthusiasm.

    A Three Days SDP on “Industrial automation and IoT” was organized by the department in association with AGIIT, Bangalore from 19th-21st feb-2019. Mr.Asuvathaman and Mr. Bairam Sunil were the resource persons. 69 students of 4th semester participated in this event. Dr. Maaz Ahmed, prof.     Hybrid Mobile APP Development, 26th&27th Feb 2018 HKBK College Of Engineering

    A Two Days SDP on “Hybrid Mobile APP Development” was organized by the department on 26th & 27th Feb 2018. Prof. Zahira Tabassum and Prof. Sufia Banu were the resource persons.

2016-17
    A Two Days FDP on “Research Methodologies, Incubation & Patenting” was conducted from 29th to 30th June 2017, in Association with IETE, Bangalore. Dr. Vaibhav A Meshram, Professor, Dayanada Sagar University, Dr. Pritam Gajakumar Shah Research Head, Jain University, Dr.Suma V, Dean and Research Head, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, were the resource persons for the event.

    An Extended Lecture on “Awareness about Overseas Opportunities and Higher Education & Preparation for GATE, IELTS, GRE, TOEFEL” was organized on 28th April, 2017, for VI & VIII Semester students by Mr. Bhanu Prakash, Country Head, Global Tree.
    Mr.Karthik John Babu, an Alumni Member conducted an Industry Interaction program on OFFSHORE for the 5th Semester Students on 6 th August 2016. He inspired the students and gave them an insight into their career prospects.

    Abraham K.C, Director, Backbone Networks, Alumnus conducted a MOCK Interview & Group Discussion for 7th Semester Students on 17th September

    Seminar on “recent trends in electrical and Electronics ” was organised on 6th October 2016 by M/S Cranes Software

Industrial Visits:

2018-19
    An Industrial visit to BHEL for the final year students was organized by the department. They were accompanied by Prof. Harsha K, Dr. Maaz Ahmed, Prof. Shireen Fathima & Prof. Nida Maheen

    2017-18

    An Industrial visit to BHEL was arranged on 31/10/17 for VII semester students.

    An industrial visit to ISRO was arranged on 09/11/17. All the V semester studentsweretaken to ISRO.

    The Department of Electronics and Communication organized industrial visit to BSNL-RTTC , Mysore Center on 11/04/2018 for VIII semester students. The visit covered both theory & lab sessions in GSM/Broadband/Digital Switching & OFC.

Students achievement

Our final Year students participated and secured second prize at the Project Exhibition cum competition conducted by VTU at the university campus. The title of the project “ Non Invasive detection of Blood glucose cholesterol level using infra red light”. More than 200 Projects were exhibited and our students won cash prize of Rs 15000 /-.

Ph.D Awardee

    Prof. Maaz Ahmed completed his Ph.D. He was conferred the Degree in Doctorate of Philosophy, by VTU on 19/08/2018.

    Prof. ImtiazAhmed completed his Ph.D. He was conferred the Degree in Doctorate of Philosophy, by Jain University on 14/01/2019.

    A reinforcement session was organized on Management and Entrepreneurship entitled “How to Think As an Entrepreneur” by Mr. Syed Hidayath-ullaHussaini, founder &CEO, CAB-TO, Bangalore, on 7/11/2017. The students of V semester attended the session.
